Public Education

Program Summary

The Public Education program provides information on mental health issues through public speaking, education seminars, our agency website, attendance at health fairs as well as a wide selection of available print material.  The goal is to make mental health a public priority, promoting mental well-being and diminishing the stigma and discrimination associated with mental illness.

  • Mental Health Week held the first week in May – a variety of community events take place
  • Mental Illness Awareness Week, the first week in October.  A variety of community events take place
  • Promoting Mental Health as critical to well-being as physical health.
  • Speakers’ Bureau:
    • Mental Health Promotion talks
    • Mental Illness Awareness talks
    • Personal stories of resilience and recovery
  • Breaking Loose: Coping with Stress of Unemployment seminar
  • Achieving Balance and Control – General stress management educational series
  • Wellness/Health Fairs
  • Coordination of Mental Health Screening Events

Eligibility

Any resident of Windsor and Essex County. Minimum 4 weeks notice for presentations and health fairs is generally required for planning purposes. Presentation requests will be prioritized and accepted based on availability and audience numbers. We may be unable to accommodate requests for less than 15 participants due to limited resources.

Funding

Community fundraised dollars and partial funding from United Way. Honorariums gratefully accepted. Fees may be required for presentations/talks not open to public.

Service Hours

Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., presentation schedule is flexible around the needs of the requestor.
